Served at the Faculty of Dance as Chair of the Movement Department (2016–2020), and Head of the Master of Dance Program (2020–2022).
Professional Background:
Dr. Dana Bar is a dance scholar, dance creator, and a teacher at the dance faculty at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance. She teaches in both the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs. She is a certified practitioner of the Feldenkrais Method for Awareness Through Movement (2011). Dr. Bar is also a graduate of the Original Voice training course for artists and creators (Colorado, 2022), led by Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés, author of Women Who Run with the Wolves.
Research and Specialization:
Dr. Bar earned her PhD from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (2019). Her doctoral dissertation, titled Between the Ordinary and the Artificial in the Art of Dance: Steps and Walking in the Works of Noa Eshkol and American Choreographers in the Sixties and Seventies of the Twentieth Century which explores the intersection of pedestrian movement and formal composition in Dance.
Her multidisciplinary work spans research, creative practice, and pedagogy, focusing on:
Performance Analysis: Critical examination of dance composition works.
Representation and Movement Notations: Issues in dance representation and movement notation systems.
Ritual and Performance: The dynamics between dance, action, and performance in ritual.
The Pedestrian and formal movement in dance: Everyday movement as artistic material in dance.
Eshkol-Wachman Movement Notation (EWMN): Utilizing notation as a tool for dance research and composition.
Creative Processes in dance composition: Methodologies of creation.
Dr. Bar publishes and presents her theoretical and practice based research at international conferences, in academic journals, and on professional dance stages.
